Article: Progress Poison

Progress Poison

On a rainy afternoon in my teens, a guy named Chazz changed my life.

He did it with this single sentence:

"The saddest thing in life is wasted talent."

(Recognize it? De Niro turned it into a movie, A Bronx Tale.)

When I read it that day, it punched me in the gut:

I was guilty.

I was wasting my talent…

And, much worse, I was wasting my time.

I didn't know exactly WHY I was wasting so much,

But I knew that if I continued,

My life would waste away.

Then and there, I vowed never to let that happen.

A lot of time has passed since that day,

And with the passage of time,

I've gained clarity on WHY I was wasting so much.

The root of my wasting was waiting—

I was waiting on 3 specific things:

Permission, Perfection, and Permanence

Chances are, you're waiting on them, too.

So to stop your wasting,

And start your working,

Here's what you need to know about them:

1) Permission

No one will hand you a permission slip in life.

Stop waiting for permission. Start working for progress.

2) Perfection

No perfect person, condition, or work exists.

Stop striving for perfection. Start embracing imperfection.

3) Permanence

Nothing is permanent… except change.

Stop avoiding change. Start seeking its challenge.

Now, let's hunt!!
