The 3 Simple Steps For Every Life Journey
I've embarked on a lot of new journeys in my life.
Recently, I've taken the first step of my next epic journey:
Committing myself to building the Few Will Hunt community full-time
If you know me, you know I'm far from risk adverse, but this is the biggest risk I've taken in my life so far.
It's not just the "career change" (my background is in tech) that makes it risky —it's a huge financial risk for my family. I practice what I preach and I foreshadowed this journey when I sketched our Risk Tee:
If we risk nothing, we risk everything.
I knew this day would come. This is my only path forward. It is necessary so that my team and I can continue to restore the dignity of hard work and leave our lasting impression on this world.
After I made this leap — yes after, not before, I'm a dive-right-in type of guy — I started to reflect on how I've succeeded in many of my life's journeys.
I realized that I have done three things, without compromise, during each of my life's journeys.
These three things didn't just help me achieve my goals. They did something much more important. They helped me break through the brick walls of my comfort zones.
When we talk about achievement and comfort zones, we often leave out a critical detail. With each achievement (big or small), a new comfort zone is constructed in our mind.
"I did it. I'm one step closer. The next step won't be as hard now."
Sound familiar? Well, it's not true.
It only gets harder, but we do get stronger... if we do these three things.
Step 1: Embrace the Uncertainty
You won't have all the answers and you'll never be fully prepared. You won't be able to see around all of the corners. You won't even have everybody in your corner. You'll need to support yourself while you take the corners hard and fast.
In short, know that there will be more uncertainty than certainty on your journey. You need to be 1,000% (yes, that's not a typo) comfortable with this fact.
Step 2: Act with Urgency
Here's where it gets harder. You don't have all the answers and you don't have a fully-baked plan, but you need to work, and fast. Fast like your life depends on it.
This means ruthlessly cutting out all distractions. No TV, no social media, no wasting energy, no wasting time — 1,000% (here's that percentage again) focus on the tasks that will advance you along the journey.
Step 3: Repeat
I know what you're saying. "Really? Repeat is a step? That doesn't make sense." Trust me, it does and it's the hardest, most important step. Consistency is the secret to achievement, no matter the journey.
Lack of consistency is what creates failure (not the good kind), regret, and unhappiness. Repeat steps 1 and 2 at all costs to break down the walls of your comfort zones and continue your journey of achievement.
Start today.
There's no better time than now to put these steps into practice. If you're doubting yourself or you're looking for a tribe to inspire you, join our Few Will Hunt community on Instagram.
